Sarah Jacquier

There are first impressions that last a lifetime: at the age of 11, Sarah Jacquier, who had so far been planning on making her living as a farmer, hid behind her hands as Gangs of New York was shown on her grandparents’ computer screen. She was terrified and fascinated by Scorsese’s film, which she devoured, suddenly understanding how powerful a story is when told with pictures.

Getting her hands on a camera as soon as she could, she explored all the possibilities it offered in her first casual jobs, on film shoots and at her audiovisual school. She then worked for several years in Paris on museum and cultural programs. Those years of experience gave her the solid technical grounding she brings into play in her films.

She lived in Australia for four years, which opened a whole new chapter in her life as a filmmaker and DOP. Whist living there, Sarah directed video clips, advertising spots and experimental films. She recently returned to Europe, where she works in fashion and advertising, continuing to develop her particular style that is as dark and as bright as a night sky lit by lightning.

Sarah Jacquier is currently working on a fiction project in which she nurtures her love of symbolism and surrealism.

Is there a ritual you couldn’t work without? Dreaming in music.
