Julien Potart

Julien Potart is a filmmaker who has a documentary-style approach. With his sharp eye, he manages to grasp what generally goes unseen, and that is what brings his subjects to life. A journalism school graduate, his love of sound first destined him to work in radio, a passion visible in the particular care he takes with the audio dimension of his works.

He started working on camera for CANAL+ with the investigative programme "90 Minutes". With his camera in hand, he learned in the field how to use his lens to get close to people and capture decisive moments. It led him to understand that editing is also a part of the storytelling adventure. In 2011, his first documentary "T-Shirt Stories”, travelled the world mingling graphic design, fashion, design, and music to show just how much this piece of cotton material has influenced pop culture.

In the same vein, with his typical amused and approving gaze, he then directed "French Touche", an immersion in the daily life of a Quidditch team - the fictional sport made famous by the very wise Harry Potter.

Julien also writes narratives for advertising, including a collection of films for GARNIER, for the needs of which he travelled to the four corners of the world to meet organic farmers who provide the raw materials for the brand’s products.

In 2022, he created "SitnWatch", a system that broadcasts documentaries gleaned from festivals around the world, signed by many directors who, like him, bring new narrative styles to the genre.

The best place on a film set/shoot? Right where the coffee thermos is.
